No finance coursework - what type of internships?

As the title infers, I have no experience in finance in the real world or in terms of coursework, (working my way up the pre-reqs) but I want to start stacking the internships to have a nice resume by junior year. I'm in great academic standing at a semi-target in NYC.

What type of internships should I be seeking at the moment? I was considering cold-emailing small PE/ boutique IB groups on the street and upstate/LI and explaining to them my situation and hopefully creating somewhat of a decent network if I played my cards right.

Problem is I'm not exactly a premier candidate -- I'm sure they receive tons of resumes on their desk from students who... have a clue. Point me in the right direction WSO. All replies appreciated.

It's all about networking and passion. If you really want to be in the industry learn on your own. Read the wsj, FT, and blogs to increase your knowledge. It's all about who you know and displaying to those people that you have what it takes. I landed a full-time offer at a large IBD firm this year by doing just that. I haven't taken one finance course. (granted im taking accounting next semester) They can teach you all of the technicals...its all about fit buddy.

i think he wants an offcycle internship to be ready for SA recruiting fall of jr year?

If so, just get any finance internship you can. Chances are you're not going to get an internship doing modeling, valuations, etc before then without finance coursework. But use whatever you can get. I did a Corp Finance internship sophmore year and it was great. Try PWM as well- NYC there should be plenty of shops looking for unpaid (maybe paid?) interns throughout the year.

"Look, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way. In twenty years, if you're still livin' here, comin' over to my house to watch the Patriots games, still workin' construction, I'll fuckin' kill you. That's not a threat, that's a fact.
