No pay bump for Moelis?

Any updates on Moelis?

They were pretty cheap to only give a $10k retention bonus vs peers who gave $20k retention bonuses this year plus $10-30k pay bumps for analysts and associates.

Does anyone know if Moelis will also be increasing pay? Even LMM IB’s now pay more than Moelis.

My guess is they may have to eventually but may be slow to do it. As long as morale is high and employees are happy (which from what I know they are relatively compared to other bankers) MC may be hesitant to raise costs and hurt the dividend/earnings of the company. Personally, I would be more happy and interested in investing / buying the stock of a bank that pays its employees very well and treats them very well but I’m not a big Money manager running billions of dollars trying to beat the S&P. MC is starting to become more and more like any other publicly traded company. Big giant paydays and high salaries may go by the wayside as it becomes more of a major institution…. I think this effect is even found in places like Carlyle where Rubenstein said the people that are good for Carlyle today are not the same as Carlyle needed/wanted in the past. Prob since it’s a public corporation now it’s less about entrepreneurship and excitement over comp and more about people who want to / can deal with a large institution and be part of a big bureaucracy.

so in short, may be sometime before they raise. I think last go around it was literally the day after MS announced that they raised salaries that Moelis raised salaries as well. So more on the eye is MS / GS feel the need to which as of now sounds like they are not super happy with their employees who don’t want to come back to the office… so who knows. Maybe they end up sitting out this round of raises…
