No Response after phone interview for a referred position

I spoke to a person whose team is recruiting summer intern next year. He believed that I'm qualified for this position, considering my past experience and skillsets. He referred me to this position and then I had a phone interview with the director of the team. Now it has been a week but I haven't heard back. I was only asked fit questions, e.g why our company? why the team? etc.. and there are no standard answers for these type of questions so I can't say how well or bad I did. But I tried to be confident and articulate when expressing myself. One week passed and it is dead silence. I tried to follow with HR but didn't get the response yet. I know at this point I'm very likely dinged, but wouldn't they usually inform the referred candidates fairly quickly? Either rejection or moving forward... What if I try to express my strong interest to the person who referred me and hope he can recommend me to team, does it increase the chance of getting the final round? I don't know what to do at this moment. But I'm really interested in this internship.

Sometimes it takes more than a week. Sometimes patience is all you need. However, if you really suspect that they are not getting back to you, then I would follow up with someone other than HR, because in all honesty, HR at most finance shops sucks, no matter what the size of the firm is. I wouldn't express interest to the person that referred you, because since he referred you, he probably already knows that you are interested in the position. I would follow up with him to see if he knows where the process is at, and if he dosen't, ask him if there is someone other than HR that you could talk to that might know what's going on. In the meantime while you are waiting to hear from him, keep networking. Even if you don't getting internships at the biggest or the best, it dosen't matter, because no matter where you get experience, you can leverage that for a job later in life.

You're welcome. Since you are a junior, then experience is key for this year as you know. Like I said even if it's a local shop, it is still experience.
