Non-target grad to IB - too late?
Hey everyone, I recently graduated and have been trying to break into IBD FT for over a year now. I networked my ass off and been sending dozens of emails for some time, but still haven't received the traction I am hoping to get. I totally understand how competitive the field is and how senior bankers receive tons of emails from people trying to break in, but my response rate has been and pretty low and I wanted to ask if anyone could share successful networking stories that led them to interviews/job offers. I am willing to keep on networking and keep grinding my way up - just want to make sure I am on the right track and am exploring all avenues that could help in my job search.
For background info - non-target, double major in finance and econ with a minor in information systems, 3.4 GPA, three internships doing business development for a startup, mid-office operations role in asset management, and commercial real estate underwriting at a small boutique.
I am aware of the recruiting timeline for FT, but I have been advised to keep on recruiting and to be on the lookout for any new openings (said a few MD's and VP's I was able to speak to). I am ideally looking to get banking experience for a few years and start applying to MBA programs. Does it make sense to keep on applying to IB positions this late? Should I look into other roles (equity research, consulting, etc) then try to shift into IB next year? Look for internships and try to convert to FT? Would appreciate any advice/tips, as well as networking experiences with non-alums that turned to be successful.
Thanks
