North American/Canadian Hiring Market — Lateral + Recent-Grad Outlook

Hey fellow apes, 

I recently made a lateral move from a product coverage group at a Big-5 (Canadian BB) bank into a sector coverage group at another Big-5. The deal-flow here is mediocre, but culture and workload are rough, and I’m not confident this group is going to help me build toward PE or long-term IB/finance exit tracks.

I’m starting to test the waters externally and wanted to get a sense: how is the hiring market looking in Canada / North America right now?

Would love to hear what people here think about the market outlook and how you’d approach this if you were in my shoes.
