Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Warwick's Recognition in Investment Banking:

    • Warwick is considered a target school for investment banking in the UK. It has a strong reputation and a significant presence of its graduates in investment banks.
    • Warwick's MSc Finance program is well-regarded, and many students from this program have successfully placed in top investment banks such as BAML, Barclays, Blackstone, Citi, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Morgan Stanley, and UBS.
  2. NUS's Recognition in Investment Banking:

    • While the context does not provide specific details about NUS's MSc Finance program, it is generally known that NUS has a strong reputation in Asia, particularly in Singapore.
    • NUS is recognized for its rigorous academic programs and strong industry connections within the Asia-Pacific region.
  3. Choosing Between NUS and Warwick:

    • Geographical Preference: If you aim to work in London or Europe, Warwick might be the better choice due to its strong presence and recognition in the UK and European investment banking scene. If you prefer to work in Asia, particularly in Singapore, NUS could be more advantageous.
    • Networking Opportunities: Warwick is known for its networking opportunities within the UK, which can be crucial for landing investment banking roles in London. Consider where you have stronger networking opportunities and alumni connections.
    • Program Cost and Duration: Evaluate the cost and duration of the programs. Warwick's MSc Finance program is noted to be expensive, but it is highly regarded. Compare this with NUS's program to see which fits your budget and timeline better.

In summary, if your goal is to work in investment banking in London or Europe, Warwick's MSc Finance program is likely the better-recognized and considered a target school by IB recruiters. If you aim to work in Asia, particularly in Singapore, NUS could be a strong contender.

I am intimately familiar with the recruitment scene in Singapore/HK .

a)NUS (and ntu/smu etc)'s masters programs are generally not target schools for IB recruiting. Undergrad - perhaps a high semi-target, but not at the graduate level.

b) If you're not Singaporean/PR your chances decline dramatically - almost nil.

In my personal experience Warwick graduates place very well at the undergraduate level but less so at the Msc level.

Gonna be straight with you ; if you're not a Singaporean or PR, it's going to be very very hard for you to find a banking (or any office based) job in Singapore fresh from any masters degree in Singapore.

I'll leave it to the UK based monkeys on this site to comment on the feasibility of getting a job in the UK after a masters degree from Warwick. From the little that Ive seen and heard, it could be difficult for fresh-graduate foreigners to find a job.

Warwick is at best a semi target at masters level which means generally the only people you see get into IB FT, are those who did IB internships either right before their masters or sometime during undergrad. Basically these people already had the profile and for reasons or another, they got more schooling.

In addition, IB FT hiring (i.e. not via the SA) in London is so depressed at the moment. Might pick up in a couple years time but for now it's hard to just enter FT unless you interned at the bank.

Apologies for hijacking this thread. You seem knowledgeable about the recruitment scene in SG/HK

Am a local with an offer for NUS MFin, I have a bachelor's from Bocconi university. What are my chances for breaking into an FO role if i were to take the NUS Mfin offer?
