NYU CAS Econ vs. UVA McIntire — Which Sets You Up Better for Finance?

Hi everyone — I’m currently a transfer student choosing between NYU CAS (Economics) and UVA McIntire (Finance concentration) for my Junior year with the goal of breaking into investment banking or buy-side finance post-grad.

Here’s where I’m at:

  • NYU is in NYC, close to major firms and with access to Stern's resources, but I'm technically in CAS, not Stern.
  • UVA McIntire is more structured and has a strong Office of Career Resources (OCR), but it's not located in a major financial hub.

I’m curious:

  • Which school actually gives you better access to top IB/PE/AM roles?
  • How does recruitment for non-Stern NYU students compare to that of McIntire graduates?
  • Do people have any regrets about choosing one over the other?

I would appreciate any advice or firsthand experience — thank you!

Assuming you are just a normal college student, would go UVA all the way.

Recruiting wise, will be similar (or even better at mcintire) and you will have way more fun at UVA than NYU lol
