Offer was just postponed 1 year from 2025 FT to 2026 FT

Offer for IB 2025 July start just got postponed to July 2026. I am completely lost and any advice would’ve greatly appreciated. Will begin networking and reaching out to old contacts but if anyone knows anywhere that is hiring or has any insight that would be extremely helpful.

That’s crazy work - what bank was this? Should be named. There was a whole issue of MBBs post-poning MBA hires by 6 months and that was a big deal.

It’s going to be extraordinarily tough, given banks have a full class of kids starting FT in 2 months.

Reach out to old contacts and try to get in touch with specific geographic offices. For instance, Menlo offices for tech groups may recruit separately, or in general West Coast. Honestly, best bet would be non-NYC if you’re looking for brand name places - LAZ has a Boston office, bunch of firms have Chicago presence, Houston for O&G.

Do not just assume that your offer will still be there in a year. These guys can go fuck themselves. Start networking and be realistic that a spot may not open for 6 months. You can still chill and do whatever, but don’t just push this off. You’ll feel better that you’re at least doing something about your situation, and you can always still hang and travel while networking.
