Partying During SA
So I will be a SA at a regional office. I'm thinking of living with a friend in an apartment complex that is known for having a lot of parties. Is this a bad idea? I'm worried I'm not going to be able to sleep at all. For those of you who have gone through SA stints, were you so exhausted when you got back that you just wanted to pass out? Or did you actually have time to go out, get drunk, and have a good time?
take it easy
There were days when I came home and passed out, but I definitely found time to go out and get drunk with friends and fellow SAs.
That's a good question. From what I've heard/ read, I'd say it that it's likely a bad idea. You want to go out and grab some drinks with the other summer analysts and/or your co-workers on occasion to show that you're a fun, social guy and you will likely have some opportunities to go out with friends, but you want to be able to pick those occasions (rather than have them keeping you up when you find you need to sleep). Check out this summer analyst advice for some more info (http://www.gottamentor.com/viewMyAdvice.aspx?a=307). It also depends on whether you are in investment banking or sales and trading - again, from what I've heard, sales and trading folks tend to go out somewhat more frequently because they get out of the office earlier and take clients out or are taken out by clients. That said, noise and partying may actually be more of an issue if you are in sales and trading than if you are in investment banking because you have to wake up earlier.
Trust me, there will be days when you'll be so tired that you'll just pass out. My apartment here in NY is noisy as shit, but I sleep right through it.
You're saying it's a good idea to room with a really noisy roommate if you want to sleep?? I guess it depends on how heavy of a sleeper you are...
What time are SA's expected to be in the office the next day? I'm thinking of getting sleeping aids but I'm not sure how long those knock me out.
