I dont know about L.A but me and one other kid that I know did an internship for credit in NYC last summer. So we actually paid the school money to go work for a BB in PWM. Did it help me get a job? Yes.
Will tell you it is tough to pay $200 per credit and then drop like $3k on housing at NYU, but it was a pretty fun summer. I would definitely consider it because the experience at this age is worth more than the $600 if you can get a $70k + salary post undergraduate.
I'm not questioning the price paid or even it's value. I suppose I'm questiong the ethical boundaries of such dealings. The instances I'm referring to involve guys actually paying the firm employees directly. Off the record, of course.
it's low, pathetic, and actually illegal. places that allow these things to happen are places you don't want to work at because: a) the people there are dicks b) the professional quality you can expect is iffy at best
not to mention that those accepting the money should be making salaries that make the offers they probably receive seem funny. if they need the money you don't want to work there.
