Physics major at LAC looking for advice and/or guidance

Hello,

Currently a sophomore at an LAC, majored in physics coming into undergrad because I liked the problem solving aspects of it as well as how blunt the courses are compared to others (you either have the correct answer or you dont, not a lot of ambiguity). Decided recently that I do not really have any interest in academia since I enjoy the problem solving aspect of the subject more than the subject itself, and cant really see myself researching it as a career via phd.

Looked towards a friend of mine who went through a similar situation, he ended up going into the buyside and then recommended to do some research on different roles in financial services to find out which I would be interested in.

Checked out diff careers, im leaning and trying to recruit for IB rn because I find the modeling quite fulfilling and interesting, problem is I am quite late to the process and only started this whole process roughly a month ago. I am trying to learn as much as I can but I feel quite behind and am wondering if anyone would be willing to share any guidance on what they think I should do / my best course of action.

For context, my stats are solid (3.9+ GPA, 1550 SAT), and I have pretty decent experiences through clubs and a data analyst internship this summer at a large bank. That said, I’m concerned that starting late, not having much super relevant IB or investing experience, and not having a strong network will significantly hurt my chances.

Would appreciate any advice on:

Whether recruiting for IB from this position is still realistic

What the best use of my time would be right now

Any alternative roles or paths I should seriously consider given my background

Thanks in advance.

Obviously have technicals ready but just try to network as hard as possible over the next few months to try to get an interview. Still apply everywhere as soon as you can but try to find people to talk to. If you come across good in calls and can explain your story no one will care that you started later

I will, thank you for the advice. How soon do you think seats will be filled at most places? Is there any type of firms that you know have sorta longer recruitment processes ?
