Pinpoint Partners (recruiting firm)

Cautionary tale - i'm writing this in the hope that noone here meets the same fate as my former intern. I expect everyone here is familiar with the nuisance that are recruiting shops like pinpoint partners. They scour the internet to find open roles on the recruiting portals of real firms, then send mass emails to young finance professionals and pretend they are working on behalf of the firms for which they found postings. On the other side as soon as they get your cv, they send it to every firm they know in the hopes they might get a commission if anyone hires the candidate. (the obvious solution here is of course to contact the firm that pinpoint is advertising directly - if they don't pay a useless recruiter, that might get added to your signing bonus after all - at least in my shop). Now back to the issue at hand: i just learned that my young friend ended up sending his CV to pinpoint (don't be too hard on him) which lead to is group lead in his current role receiving it from pinpoint in two days time with a note that this "awesome candidate is keen to make a move asap". moral of the story - just be aware - there are legitimate recruiting firms out there and i've met a few. But a little bit of research will tell you who they are and who they are not and in the current market noone below 5-10 years experience likely benefits from using one anyway.
