Pivoting from Public Finance using a Masters in Finance?

I’m currently an SA at a MM firm in the southwest, and while the job is steady pay I don’t enjoy it at all. I’m very grateful I even have this opportunity in the first place as I’m a student at a non target state school, but I honestly dread the work and can’t imagine myself spending a year here as an analyst if I were to be given a return offer

For those of you who were able to pivot out of the field, what was your path? I haven’t found much info on people who lateraled from public finance into other fields in IB. Would it be a better idea to instead go for a masters in finance rather than rerecruit during + after my internship?
