PJT strategic Advisory (structured products)
First round interview next week for PJT Strategic Advisory (structured products). I’m making a transition from consulting at McK.
Can someone share how their structure products group line up against the rest? What is the culture and WLB? What are the best resources to leverage to prepare for the interview with one week in advance (no previous finance experience)?
Based on the WSO content, here's what you need to know about preparing for your interview at PJT Strategic Advisory, especially in the structured products group:
Understanding the Role and Group: PJT's Strategic Advisory services are known for their rigorous analytical approach and complex problem-solving scenarios. The structured products group will likely focus on securitization and related financial instruments. It's crucial to understand the basics of these concepts.
Culture and Work-Life Balance (WLB): While specific details about the structured products group aren't provided, PJT, in general, has a reputation for a demanding environment, similar to other top-tier advisory services. Expect a culture that values deep expertise and hard work. Work-life balance can be challenging, as with most roles in high-level advisory services.
Transitioning from Consulting to Finance: Leverage your consulting experience by focusing on your analytical skills, problem-solving capabilities, and client management experience. These are valuable in finance roles and will be relevant during your discussions.
Preparation Resources:
Networking: Try to connect with current or former employees of PJT's Strategic Advisory group. This can provide insider insights and potentially helpful advice specific to the group's dynamics and interview style.
Review Basic Finance Concepts: Given your background in consulting and lack of finance experience, ensure you understand fundamental finance concepts such as NPV, IRR, DCF, and basic accounting principles.
Prepare diligently, focusing on both technical skills and how your consulting background makes you a unique candidate for this role. Good luck!

How did it go?
Anyone get an update from R1?
Interviewer told me they are interviewing throughout the rest of this week and superdays 2 weeks from now (if I remember correctly)
Have you had round 2?
Anyone know what this group does? Haven’t heard of PJT in SPs. Is it valuations (similar to HL or Lincoln)?
Lots of just structure no stuff
Any updates for anyone?
Got an invite for the next round
whats the second round about? is it a case or an interview?
How long did it take for you to hear from r1 to superday.
Interviewed for structured products FT 5 days ago
This forum is filled with some greedy motherfuckers.
I interviewed with this group a long time ago and frankly i still had no idea what they do in SP. They dont have a presence in any ABS role/asset class in structured finance. I think this is more of a valuation group or leveraged finance but someone decided to use a fancy name that is more commonly used with structured finance. Interview was behavioral and was asked what i know about restructuring.
They seem to like poaching from other BB and hiring traditional hires (ivy, etc)
any updates anyone?
are you asking for updates from the 1st round or 2nd?
Did you hear back after the case study round? I heard that case study round is after the first round
Has anyone heard back for the final round?
Have you heard anything since this comment?
nope. Have you? I was told the final round would happen after the case study
Any update here? Curious on the sequence of interviews (currently in process for lateral hire to Analyst - Stra. Advisory).
Had a chat with an analyst and now received an invite to three in-person back-to-back interviews with MD, VP & Aso. They didn't call it a superday. Is there typically another interview or case study following this "superday"?
Any insight on the interview questions specific to industry Stra. Advisory would be greatly appreciated as well!
How was it?
Not structured products. Last interview - no case presented. Just a chat with a current team member.
anyone did the final round or received an offer?
I never heard anything so I’m definitely dinged. Probably someone not on WSO that moved on.
How did your presentation go? I thought they gave me really strong positive feedback so was a bit surprised I didn’t move on.
my presentation went well i think. but just like you, have not heard anything back so I got dinged too i guess.
The role opened again
Bumping this thread. Have a first round lined up for next week.
