Poor Intern Quality at Bank of America Chicago Industrials

I was recently working on a project with someone from Chicago Industrials that required me reaching out to an intern and a fresh-faced analyst. These guys did not know how do modelling and basically tried to pass off the  responsibility like a hot potato.

What's the deal with their hiring practices over there? A few years ago I helped two of their better interns make it over to NY, but I don't see any point in that now. I hope Chicago ups its standards, I know our NY interns learn quickly and make mistakes, but, unlike Chicago, they never make the same mistakes twice.

We'll need more people with on-the-job experience in NY next year, but probably not from Chicago.

Could be wrong but I don't really fault the intern for not knowing how to model. If the fresh face was a lateral no excuse but if he was new hire from 2023 he's got some slack imo but should get on learning modeling right away

Don't work at BofA, but have some friends who have gone through BofA Chicago and basically have said they've (two people - there at the same time, both gone) didn't close a single deal during their tenure, all they did was pitch (and didn't win), so I wouldn't be too surprised if an ungratefulMD didn't get quality work out of the team

Yeah it’s totally the intern’s fault that they don’t win mandates haha. This post almost seems AI generated the way that this guy is complaining about an intern 4 months after the fact

Funniest

The bar is always lower in Chicago. Why? Because, you have to work in Chicago

The analysts out in Chicago offices always be weaker hires than NYC and SF

Why is this comment getting MS? It’s generally true across many groups, Chicago hiring standards aren’t as stringent compared to other offices, whether that’s in ib, pe or other roles.

Ag is a little niche to be considered industrials IMO but let’s not act like Bunge/Viterra is a small deal lmao
