Post-offer pre-internship prep resources?

Looking for any recommendations on pre internship prep resources.  Incoming Summer Associate at BB, military background so I’d like to do all I can to not look like I’ve never touched a computer this summer.  Most of the prep programs I’ve found are pretty geared towards landing an offer and less so the actual work.  Outside of a PowerPoint/ excel class (already doing that) has anyone used any modeling prep programs?  My second semester schedule is criminally relaxed so I’d like to get some extra prep in.  Thanks!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some excellent pre-internship prep resources and strategies to help you hit the ground running as a Summer Associate:

  1. Financial Modeling Courses:

    • The WSO Elite Modeling Package is highly recommended. It includes six courses covering financial statement modeling, DCF, M&A, LBO, and valuation modeling. This package is designed to take you from beginner to advanced levels, ensuring you're well-prepared for the technical aspects of your internship.
  2. Excel and PowerPoint Mastery:

    • Since you're already taking a PowerPoint/Excel class, consider diving into advanced Excel and PowerPoint techniques. Wall Street Prep offers advanced courses that focus on shortcuts, pitchbook creation, and presentation mastery, which are crucial for day-to-day tasks.
  3. CapIQ and Database Familiarity:

    • If you have access to databases like CapIQ, familiarize yourself with running comps and transaction searches. This skill is often overlooked but can be a game-changer during your internship.
  4. Daily Business News:

    • Make it a habit to read the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and Barron’s on weekends. If you're in a specific coverage group, follow industry-specific news to stay informed and add value during discussions.
  5. Networking and Mentorship:

    • Reach out to mentors or colleagues who have worked at the bank. They can provide insights into the tools and apps commonly used, as well as tips for excelling in your role.
  6. Mock Interviews and Resume Reviews:

    • While these are typically geared towards landing offers, they can also help refine your communication and presentation skills, which are critical for client-facing roles.
  7. Free Resources:

    • Take advantage of the WSO Free Modeling Series, which includes nine lessons taught by experienced professionals. It also comes with 27 financial modeling templates that you can practice with.
  8. Bootcamps:

    • Consider attending WSO's live bootcamps, such as the Financial Modeling & Valuation 2-Day Bootcamp or the Investment Banking Interview 4-Hour Bootcamp. These are intensive and provide hands-on experience.

By leveraging these resources, you'll not only build technical skills but also gain the confidence to excel in your internship. Good luck!
