PowerPoint Training
I see a lot of resources for Excel training out there such as WSP, TTS, AE, Damodaran just to name a few.
I understand new analysts are to be proficient in PowerPoint as much as in Excel given the fact that they will be spending good chunk of their time making marketing materials like pitch books.
So, I was wondering if there are any good PowerPoint resources out there that are specifically geared to IB training?
Thanks.
There is no need for powerpoint training. Have you ever seen an OM/CIM or any other type of i-banking marketing materials? It consists of pics, text, templates, and a few imbedded objects (graphs,tables,etc.). Go to your library and get a PPT book if you want but the best way to learn is to just mess around and build a 10 page report.
Thanks for your reply. Are there any sample pitchbooks out there one can take a look at? Im sure it'd be easier to play around after browsing some samples of pitch books.
To be honest, there really isn't much more in a pitchbook besides bullet points, tables, and charts. Most of the banks have their own PPT add ons to help you format it all, so there really isn't much use in trying to practice w/o having the software. It's easy to pick up on though, so really don't worry about it.
Just brush up on your accounting and learn the financial statements.
Can anyone explain what WSP, TTS, AE is for excel training? Thanks.
Thanks, nystateofmind for your reply. It makes sense most banks would have their own PPT. I was also curious about what pitch books look like, for I have never seen one.
To tbsthk,
WSP: Wall Street Prep TTS: Training the Street AE: Analyst Exchange
OK thanks!
Power Point Training Best Resource? (Originally Posted: 07/11/2010)
Does anyone know any good resource for power point training (free or low cost)? I know that this can be learned on the job but I want to know everything about it. I've been browsing through but couldn't find any. Any help would be appreciated!
From my experience (and this is for consulting), you mainly learn on the job. Many firms have their own style and use templates anyways. Additionally, many firms have their own ppt add-ons that make life easier (eg. formatting) than normal anyways.
It's great that you want to get a head start, but most of it will come from on the job experience (and repetition).
Breaking Into Wall Street has a brand new course on powerpoint for IB. If you can spare the money, look into it. It's probably gonna be your most effective and efficient resource, it'll have the most relevant info to know. If not, try this: http://ifile.it/ki3v842
A very cheap and easy way to start practicing is by finding a good presentation online and trying to replicate it exactly as is. (Just google presentations created by analysts from one the top banks) This will familiarize you with the different tools and you will become much faster.
Thanks guys for the info.
