do you mean 1. Is banking as prestigious in the US "as" it's in Europe ? or 2. Is banking "more" prestigious in the US than it's in Europe ?
I think the assumption here is also that people in America care as much about prestige as they do in Europe.
Get to Iowa, and nobody cares if you're a banker, and if they do, they will organize the kind of party that involves angry people with pitchforks and torches.
I'd say Investment Banking is considered more prestigious in the US, whereas in the UK becoming a Trader is more sought after. Possibly due to the greater weight attached to a reasonable work-life balance in Europe.
prestige matters more in USA than in Europe. not that it doesn't matter in Europe.
I'm in the US and none of my non-finance NYC friends give two craps about my job. They think I'm a moron for doing this to myself when there's more productive uses of my time out there. So it's not just an Iowa thing to be indifferent towards banking.
