Private Equity

The typical track of doing an IB stint and then moving into PE has come up a lot lately. It even came up in my interview for my current firm. “So is your plan to move into private equity after working a few years with us?” Why has this become such an assumption? Obviously PE gets paid more than IB (clearly not always), but is that really what most people want? I personally love the work that IB offers and currently don’t see myself moving away from it at least for now. What are the similarities between IB & PE and why does it draw so many people in?
