Private Placements + ECM

Assuming no modeling, can someone in one of these groups exit to tech or consulting in a more strategic type role? I don't think you're doing too much of the heavy lifting, but can you still sell your experience as such and get looks? For someone not trying to do PE, is this a good route to cruise through analyst years and reap the exits outside of high finance? Would think maybe early stage VC could work here too?

Have seen it done a few times. They were always superstar associates or VPs, never analysts. Headhunters don’t think of you as a typical candidate so you have to seek out these opportunities through your own network.

In some of the top private placements teams, you get very familiar with a lot of sponsors, family offices, SWF, etc. If you become known as the very creative and talented VP who designs these unique structures then they might invite you over to join them. But it’s not a cruise or lifestyle route. It’s an atypical path so you got to prove that you’re capable, often more than a traditional candidate in IB.
