Pro Athlete to IB

Hi All. I'm a 24 year old recently retired Ex-Professional Baseball Player and Business Honors graduate of a D1 non-target looking to leverage my past experiences in professional sports into a full-time role as an investment banking analyst. I majored in Finance and was originally interested in the field because I knew how competitive and demanding the positions were. Although an atypical path, I'm confident my skills to execute at a high level in a hyper-competitive environment alongside the best in the world will translate well into IB. In addition, I have data analytics experience within the baseball realm. Only problem is I lack the actual IB technical skills.

I currently live + went to undergrad in the NYC area and have a decent network. I feel trying to get my foot in the door at a Boutique may offer a quicker learning experience/transition than delaying my career for additional schooling. Perhaps my first step would be to try and land an internship this summer and go from there? Or just crush, WSO courses and IB interview technical questions and try leveraging myself into a FT role? Are there any other FT positions at banks/in Finance that may transition well in the future to an IB role?

Could use some advice! Thanks.

There are a few former pro athletes at different banks. Would recommend searching LinkedIn to see if you can find any and then try reaching out to them. Not going to be easy without experience or very strong technical knowledge of the job though. Smaller boutiques will be an option. The MBA route may make sense for you as well if you can get into a decent program. You can skip the analyst years and get hired as an associate at a top bank assuming you get into a strong program.
