Prominent sectors in HK/SG IBD?

Heard that it’s mainly generalist M&A teams in HK/SG IBD. What sectors are most prominent?

Joining IBD in London/NYC and looking to transfer to APAC offices (I speak Cantonese & Mandarin to HK/SG preferred)

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the prominent sectors in Hong Kong (HK) and Singapore (SG) Investment Banking Division (IBD) include:

  • Consumer
  • Real Estate
  • Industrial
  • Financial Institutions Group (FIG)

Most Southeast Asian bankers are expected to cover at least 3-4 sectors. This is similar for bankers in Hong Kong, Singapore, and China.

For those looking to transfer to APAC offices, especially if you speak Cantonese and Mandarin, HK and SG are preferred locations. The generalist M&A teams in these regions cover a broad range of sectors, providing diverse exposure and experience.

Hi I been interviewing at various PE and IB and actively attend networking talks in SG

From what I see, industrial and healthcare M&A are big in Singapore.

Industrial: Singapore is a shipping hub and also the heart of SEA

Healthcare: The EBITDA margins are great for healthcare companies in SEA but other than im mostly at the intern stage like you. and maybe someone more experienced can give a better answer

There are also a few tech IB M&A firms in sg smaller boutiques.

What are IBankers doing in SG then? Would prefer SG over HK so curious to know how it’s going
