RBC HTX Superday

Not sure if I'll make it to the superday round, but had my first interview with RBC today and I thought it went pretty well. They are going to let me know if I have advanced to the superday round by Sunday evening. Has anyone had a superday at RBC specifically in the Houston office? Want to know what I should best prepare for in case I get to the next round.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about preparing for a Superday, particularly for RBC in Houston:

  1. Format of the Superday:

    • Superdays typically consist of multiple back-to-back interviews, often with a mix of associates, VPs, and Managing Directors. Expect 3-5 interviews, each lasting 15-30 minutes.
    • The interviews are usually a mix of technical and behavioral questions. Be ready to demonstrate both your financial knowledge and your fit for the team.
  2. Technical Preparation:

    • Brush up on financial modeling concepts like DCF, M&A, LBO, and Comps. RBC may test your understanding of these, especially if you're applying for an investment banking role.
    • Be prepared to walk through your resume and discuss any financial or analytical experience in detail.
    • Practice mental math and valuation questions, as these are common in technical rounds.
  3. Behavioral Questions:

    • Prepare answers for common behavioral questions like "Why RBC?", "Why Houston?", and "Why investment banking?"
    • Have examples ready for questions about teamwork, leadership, and handling challenges. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your responses.
    • Be ready to discuss your motivations and long-term goals, as RBC may want to assess your commitment to the role and location.
  4. Houston-Specific Insights:

    • If you're interviewing for the Houston office, there may be a focus on energy and natural resources, given the region's industry prominence. Familiarize yourself with recent trends in the energy sector and RBC's role in it.
    • Highlight any connections to Houston or interest in the energy market to show your alignment with the office's focus.
  5. General Tips:

    • Arrive early, stay hydrated, and bring a notebook to jot down names or key points.
    • Send thank-you emails to your interviewers after the Superday, referencing specific parts of your conversation to leave a lasting impression.
    • Practice mock interviews to build confidence and refine your answers.

If you make it to the Superday, focus on staying calm and confident. Good luck, and remember, preparation is key!
