RBC Industrials Group
Hi, I am in college and about to start placement soon for IB. I have heard really mixed things about industrials at RBC. I heard it one of the best groups, along with PUI and M&A, and brings in the most amount of revenue/good deal flow at the bank. However, I heard that some people in the group are really mean and that the group is much sweatier than other groups at the bank. Can anyone shed light on their experience with RBC Industrials? Even other groups?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, the RBC Industrials group is indeed considered one of the standout groups at the bank. It has a strong reputation for deal flow and revenue generation, making it one of the top-performing groups alongside Power & Utilities (P&U) and M&A. A notable highlight is that Rosenbaum, co-author of the well-known "Investment Banking" book by Rosenbaum & Pearl, leads the Industrials group, which adds to its prestige.
However, the group is also known for its demanding culture. It has been described as having a "serious face time culture," which can translate to long hours and a "sweatier" environment compared to other groups at RBC. This aligns with feedback that some individuals in the group may come across as tough or challenging to work with.
If you're considering other groups at RBC, P&U and M&A are also highly regarded. P&U bankers, in particular, have been noted as enjoyable to network with, and the group has a strong reputation. On the flip side, RBC as a whole has been described as having a relatively heavy face time culture across certain teams, so this might be something to keep in mind when evaluating your options.
Ultimately, while the Industrials group offers excellent deal flow and strong exit opportunities, the demanding culture may not be for everyone. It’s worth considering your personal preferences and career goals when making a decision.

Deal flow is good. People exit to whatever they want and are usually able to get what they are targeting (Although they wern't really chasing top MF PE tbf). Culture is fine / good and a lot better than m&a and PU&I.
avoid this bank like the plague.
