Real Estate IB Groups?
Looking to get into real estate investment banking, but not sure which groups exist in NYC/Chicago/Dallas. Is anyone able to confirm which groups currently exist in any of those cities? Thanks.
Join a bulge bracket bank for the balance sheet.
In no particular order, these are the best ones from what I’ve heard: GS, JPM, MS, BofA, Citi, Wells Fargo
Do none of the boutiques have a real estate group?
They do but they are objectively weaker due to the fact that all they can offer is M&A strategic advisory. Most of what they do are private capital raises.
A lot of real estate involves an inherit need for some sort of debt vehicle in their transactions and bulge brackets can offer that due to having their own source of lending capital.
Historically, Evercore and Moelis have done well in the space, but I wouldn’t compare them to BB, especially when you look at their respective exits.
Which cities have a lot of REGAL groups? Mostly NYC and what else?
If you want to do Real Estate Investment Banking, stay in NYC. Other cities with real estate groups that aren’t the classic REGAL are Dallas, LA, little bit of Charlotte from the top of my head.
