Receiving lateral offers without interviewing
I know a guy who received an offer from another firm without going through any interview process. How common is receiving a lateral offer without going through any sort of tests or interviews?

The group I ended up joining, I only had 3 “interviews” - first was a phone call with my direct manager, a Director in the group, then the other two were 45 minute calls with the two MDs (though would not consider them true interviews since they talked 90% of the time).
Finally, met my manager in person for lunch and was given a verbal. No true technicals throughout, just a couple thought process questions, fit, and interest in the space, not a true “no interview” but was definitely unique from my other interview processes.
