Recruitment Advice
Currently a junior at a target school (2027 grad). Not to drop a sob story, but, growing up I never really had an issue with school, and ended up an ivy. Adjusting was difficult arriving college, especially when it came to studying habits (I never developed studying habits growing up, because I found everything easy) etc., yet I still maintained a fair 3.6 GPA. However, second semester of my sophomore year was quite a mess, especially for IB recruitment tied with school. My GPA dropped even further to a 3.5, and I never got interviewed once; I proposed that mainly it was because of (1) GPA and (2) taking "quality over quantity" too literal - I had great coffee chats (each were about 40+= minutes long), however only chatted one person per bank. For me especially, I hated the feeling of not even having the chance to apply what I had learned in a single interview.
Fast forward to the summer following my sophomore year, I felt like something needed to change, and lo and behold, I got a mature diagnosis with ADHD - I felt pure grief by the idea of what my life could have been, had I been diagnosed earlier. As a pivotal moment, I decided to change my habits, and decided to really hike up my GPA for my junior year. So come forth my junior year, I decided to take 22 credits each semester, in which I ended off both with a 4.2 semester GPA (pretty much straight A+'s). But I guess the awkward predicament is that it is currently early May, and summer is quite literally here. I had been too focused on school, that now I have no idea what my plan is for this summer.
I have been looking everywhere and quite literally cannot find avenues to take, given that I still want to pursue IB/PE. I do not have any direct contacts within the industry, as the finance industry is quite a foreign idea to my immigrant parents.
I've started to see 2027 FT roles, which I have been applying to, however, I'm worried that since I have nothing for this summer, the chances for that are hindered as well. I'm quite lost on what to do moving forward, and I do not want to do nothing this summer. I could care less about money, but I just want to learn through work, in the industry I truly enjoy learning about. I would truly appreciate advice.
