Reneging in Top Firms

I’m currently a rising junior in one of MS’s sophomore programs, and have a 2023 offer signed with MS (in a different division). However, i got an interview from GS (for a division i’ve always wanted to work in, not ib tho). I did the interview just for practice and to network, not thinking i’d actually get it, but i actually did. I want to take the GS offer, but reneging would burn my bridges with MS (especially since i am working for them this summer). I am not too particularly excited about the division i’m working in MS for 2023 (i kind of signed it bc i had no other offers at the time)  but there is also a chance I could move within the firm to go to the division i actually want to work for without reneging. Would you recommend reneging for GS, or staying within MS?

You gotta look out for number #1, and that’s you.

Accept GS, wait until your internship is over with MS and in August let them know you will not be joining them again.

If you can, try to get the offer deadline for GS extended for as long as you can

Accept it and dont renege until later. Ik someone who did this in college and had no issues

Edit: I wouldnt ask for an extension, bc GS will not give you the entire summer to make your decision anyway, and it will draw more attention to you. I dont want to be too specific, but Ik someone who was in a similar situation and GS knew about it but didn't have a problem with it. But this was a few years back and imo you shouldnt let either firm know, just in case.

Usually against reneging, but I think it's a bit different since you already work at MS. I would accept GS, be extremely quiet about it, and then tell MS you're not coming back at the end of the summer. Do not tell them where you are going. Do not update your LinkedIn to say "Incoming X at GS" wait to change it until you have started there.

Assuming the division you want is competitive/an upgrade, transferring internally is difficult from SA -> FT, and if you start FT you have to wait a year to transfer internally.
