Rising Junior Worried About Future (Breaking into IB)

Question

Basic resume for reference:

Rising Junior at Duke, no connections, not diversity

Econ (concentration in finance) major, CS minor: 3.81 GPA

Summer 2022 Federal Reserve Intern: Working with competitive analysis of M&A between banks/holding companies and assessing financial health of said institutions (my only somewhat relevant experience)

Previous Experience: Waiting tables at several restaurants (not relevant but still put on resume)

Several at university clubs (1 leadership position), and one Summer NOLS course (backpacking in the wilderness for 30 days)

While I can't offer much advice beyond what's already been posted on the forum, I can offer solace.

I broke in two years out of uni, from a non-target, with a 3.30 GPA, and all my internships in PWM. In the two years post-grad, I worked as a personal trainer.

If someone like me can do it, you'll have absolutely no issues. Just work hard, stay humble, and trust that everything will work out. It always does.

(I hate that I have to state this, but someone will ask. I'm a straight white male, and didn't break in through the nepotism slingshot. Mind-blowing, I know.)

Duke has a pretty solid alumni network, so make sure to take advantage of that. If you really want to get into IB your top priority should be to land an IB-related internship for junior summer. You have a few options. 1. There are probably some regional boutiques who will take on a summer intern. 2. Some banks, even BBs, continue to recruit summer interns past the "on-cycle" deadlines, so keep networking and you may see some opportunities open up. 3. Consulting recruitment is also a good idea. 4. You can consider either delaying graduation by a semester and re-applying or 5.
