Who is the final boss in Houston Energy? (GS, JEFF or EVR)

I am a class of 2029 student recruiting for the 2028 SA in Houston. Due to my connections and my top energy PE internships and clubs, I am confident I can be placed into some top banks. Through WSO posts, my mentors at SMU, and my family connection at a large energy PE, I was told that the four best shops in Houston are GS, JEFF, EVR, and JPM.

I had 40 chats and think I messed up my chats with JPM, but had decent chats with GS, JEFF, and EVR. I genuinely enjoyed my chats with them and was basically confirmed that I will have a 1st round. Based on my understanding, GS does most of the big deals (5 Billion+), and JEFF is just printing deals every year and monopolizing 50% of upstream sell-sides with RBC and MOE. EVR is the most balanced one, doing both a $100 million mineral transaction and getting on Devon Coterra.

If I am in a lucky spot and get offers from all three of those places, which one should I go with? Assume I want to stay in Oil and Gas and will likely exit to energy PEs

All four places you mentioned are solid and will place you into some top energy PE like Quantum/EnCap/ Carnelian/NGP

Given that you said you wanna stay in energy, I would say JEFF/EVR are the best banks because they are just deal factories that execute so many deals

GS is a good name but those large M&A transactions are usually not regular auction processes but more like a bilateral conversation driven by MDs, so you would spend more time on useless pitches and business development initiatives

That said, EVR and GS might have stronger brand recognition if you want to keep your options open down the line
