SA2028 Coffee chat

Current sophomore recruiting for IB. I was wondering if it it possible to have ~5 chats at each of the bulge brackets (and fewer for boutiques) on the street during recruiting? Considering how busy everyone is, is it normal to only have good enough conversations with a few firms and then get moved to their first rounds? Sorry if this is a dumb/pointless question, but trying to understand how many chats I should aim to make by the end of semester. Really appreciate people’s insights and experiences on this!

please have as many convos as possible. you will be surprised, when i recruited, i had some banks with 8 - 10 calls, with some strong ones, and didnt get first rounds. your best bet for a bulge bracket is 10+ calls. keep asking ur conversations to refer you to more people

thank you so much for the advice! If I had a chat with a MD and that is my first chat at the bank, can I still ask them to recommend others to chat with? Worried that will come off as wasting their time/not reading the room, but also might be my only chat from the firm/chance to reach more ppl

one thing you'll regret later is never asking. worst thing they will do is not respond. and never take it personally, they are genuinely so busy.
