Sector(s) With the Least M&A Activity

Hi all,

I'm currently preparing for some upcoming interviews and was thinking about which sectors are likely to see elevated M&A activity, and which ones will have less M&A activity in the near future.

It's not so difficult to answer the first question, however, I'm struggling to come up with any examples of sectors that will have less M&A activity in the years to come. Could anyone of you guys provide some intelligence on this?

Thanks a lot.

Biotech. It's pretty much IPOs. Big Pharmas do acquire biotech firms, but biotech firms want $$$ first since the biotech IPO market is hot rn.

I'm just an intern but power and utilities companies are very big and their deals are mostly asset sales rather than corporate mergers. Correct me if I'm wrong

Don't know much about P&U. Within infrastructure, it's pretty much asset sales as well, usually between operating partners/PEs themselves sometimes between governments and PEs. That's brownfield. If it's greenfield then it's more of a construction project where the infra bankers/consultants do an operating model, which can be extremely (and maybe unnecessarily) complex.
