Semiconductor/Hardware Industry

Incoming FT in a tech coverage group that does a lot of semiconductor deals. As an intern I was lost and would like to do some research before I start. Does anyone have recommendations on how to approach learning about the industry? Primers, videos, websites, any other methods? It's so complex and broad so I'm not looking to cover everything but would like a strong foundation on the broader semis/hardware industry as well as current trends.

God's sanest cokehead

Honestly, a great way I have learned the foundation to industries is to read the "business factors" part of the 10-K for companies within the industry.

For semiconductors, I'd say Texas Instruments, Intel, Broadcom, Qualcomm. They have some different business models but all operate in the same space (obviously).

Also Micron and TSMC, so as to have a more complete universe

If you want a “leisurely” read - the book Chip Wars helps put the industry’s history into context
