They’ve set me up with legit interviews/opps before but they have a TON of really crappy opps. Sorta like digging thru the dump except you will find a diamond in the rough on occasion.

They are shit, but nothing stinks more than water street / pinpoint

What's the deal with Pinpoint ? They keep asking for CVs like they are filling darknet databases like no tomorrow

They won’t tell u name of firm before you send resumes. Once you sent, they start spamming your inbox daily with fake opportunities (from both pinpoint and water) with no way to unsubscribe. Just try calling them, I’ll personally blow u off if they answer.

Also, their founder, Kieran whatever, has two different profiles on LinkedIn.

Go figure

Always remember this,

1/ recruiters don't work for you (no need tell them all your problems, despite what Meredith tells you)

2/ You are the product, if you are not sellable, they move on (ie ghost you!)

3/ They are the gate keepers, not the deciders, so tell the security guard whatever to gain entry, (ofcourse be smart about it, don't lie outright, massage it) and then prove your capabilities to the hiring manager

They are one of the spammier, more low-effort recruiters.

Think a crappy M&A bank that runs each process as broad as humanly possible because they don't have a discerning and nuanced value proposition or a great eye for what shit floats and sinks in a given market.

That is Selby Jennings. Doesn't mean they don't fill roles, they do. Their processes are just broad as fuck and waste a lot of people's time. There are select recruiters there though who actually do have trust with their clients and actually do know what their clients are looking for and actually do run focused/efficient and high-probability recruiting processes for qualified candidates only instead of worldwide spam approach.

I had absolute shit luck with Selby Jennings where I was having good calls with their HHs that they inbound to me and then I'd never hear back. But like someone mentioned above, I think the roles are generally real, just if you don't pass the sniff test to their clients they move on quickly without a follow-up. I did end up getting my next opportunity through Selby though, so diamond in the rough is correct.

Annoying as fuck, kept calling me multiple times a day… one recruiter even decided it would be a good day to ring me a few different times at 7am. Eventually the calls started fading out but never interacting with them again.

Got my latest gig from them, ghosted initially (but I did from a stupid amount of others during SVB pause too) but they were super communicative once I got to the interview phase and the Company showed interest. I'd say it's better than like tandym or efinancial, but not like Dartmouth. Personally I had similarities to them like Metis

Theres of course firms where it's obvious they got mandates that were thrown to a dozen firms, but they have some exclusive, strong opportunities. It's not going to be the exclusive firms that may not have any postslings, period, and only reach out to you vs linkedin job board. Buy side shops and executive searches have strong exclusivity, have worked with some of those who are fantastic and you want to keep in touch with

I had good experiences with two different Selby Jennings recruiters concurrently a couple years ago. The processes were located in the same tier 2 city, and I walked away with two offers from reputable firms in that market. It may feel like they spam opportunities on LinkedIn and such, but I wouldn't call them "fake" based on this.

i would echo the above in that i’ve had several positive experiences with shelby jennings. there were a couple cases where i was set up for an “informal conversation” that ended up being a fully-fledged interview but whatever. they have some legit roles.

They fucking suck. Can confirm they will randomly call you at 7am.

I told this one recruiter I wasn’t interested after they had messaged me about an opportunity because I wanted to see how my bonus played out, then she posted on her LinkedIn this big spiel about how candidates should be engaging with a recruiter before bonus payouts. Posted this like 10 minutes after I sent her that message.

I don’t care if that is true or not. I found that to be wildly strange and never talked to their company again.
