Should I do my best to switch vertical/sector asap?

I’m a 1st-year at the top IB in my region. At our firm, you are staffed c. 50/50 on a vertical/sector and in the junior resource pool for your first 2-3 years.

My vertical is E&P, meaning I’ll be working about 50% on E&P transactions and 50% in whatever sector needs extra capacity at any time.

I really like the partners I work under (they generally avoid weekend work, take me with them when meeting clients abroad and let me talk during meetings).

My concern is having so much of my banking experience based in E&P. While a lot of the transactions I work on are focused on firms trying to pivot into renewables, I feel like a lot of the industry knowledge I’m gaining will be worthless if I leave IB, especially considering I have no plans of working within that sector were I to exit.

Was hoping someone more experienced could post their thoughts on the issue.
