Showing interest in RX

How do u guys tailor your CV for one IB team versus another?

Specifically for internships outside the US, where networking with ppl from specific groups doesnt increase your chances of interviews, how do you make your CV stand out for RX seats?

I.e: I’ve spent a lot of time building RX knowledge (read Moyer, Credit Investor’s Handbook, follow Pari Passu and The Brink, plus some RX thesis I've wrote). Given the time spent, obv u build ur skills but would be nice to find a way to reflect it on my CV and show the particular interest.

Is it lame to add those even in one bullet (and I honestly wouldn’t know where), or do u just keep grinding in the dark and hope for the best?

To tailor your CV for RX (Restructuring) teams, especially for internships outside the US where networking may not significantly boost your chances, here are some actionable tips based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Highlight RX-Specific Knowledge and Skills:

    • Include a bullet point under your "Education" or "Relevant Experience" section that reflects your RX-focused learning. For example:
      • "Developed expertise in distressed debt and restructuring through self-study of Moyer's 'Distressed Debt Analysis,' 'Credit Investor’s Handbook,' and RX-focused publications such as Pari Passu and The Brink."
    • If you've written RX theses, mention them under a "Projects" or "Academic Research" section:
      • "Authored restructuring theses analyzing distressed companies, focusing on capital structure optimization and creditor negotiations."
  2. Showcase Analytical and Technical Skills:

    • Emphasize skills that are critical for RX, such as financial modeling, credit analysis, and understanding of distressed scenarios. For example:
      • "Built detailed financial models to evaluate distressed company scenarios, including liquidation and reorganization outcomes."
  3. Position Your Interest Strategically:

    • If you have relevant coursework or certifications (e.g., financial modeling, valuation), list them prominently. Tailor your CV to reflect a strong foundation in areas like credit analysis, bankruptcy law, or distressed investing.
  4. Use a Dedicated Section for RX Interests:

    • If space allows, create a "Restructuring Interests" or "Additional Information" section at the bottom of your CV. Here, you can briefly list your RX-related readings, publications, or personal projects.
  5. Avoid Overloading:

    • While it's important to reflect your RX interest, avoid making your CV too niche unless you're exclusively targeting RX roles. Balance it with general IB skills and experiences to keep your options open.
  6. Keep Grinding:

    • Even if you feel like you're "grinding in the dark," the effort will pay off. Your deep knowledge and passion for RX will shine through in interviews, especially if you can articulate how your preparation aligns with the role.

By incorporating these elements, you can effectively tailor your CV to stand out for RX seats while maintaining a professional and polished presentation.
