Smaller IB firms for summer internship

I am a junior at a target school still looking for a summer 2025 IB/ Finance Internship and am wondering if there are any smaller firms, preferably in NYC, that are still searching. I feel like this thread may have a lot of interest from juniors in similar positions. (Context: +3.6 GPA, plenty of extracurriculars and campus involvement related to finance, previous accounting focused internship). Thank you for your help.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some steps and resources to help you find smaller IB firms for a summer 2025 internship:

  1. Regional Boutique Banks:

    • Smaller boutique investment banks often have less structured recruiting processes and may still be looking for interns. These firms can be a great place to start your search.
    • For a comprehensive list of boutique investment banks, you can refer to the WSO thread titled "Searching for a Summer Internship?" which provides detailed information on 150 boutique banks, including their websites, office locations, and contact details. This can be accessed at: https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/job-search/searching-for-a-summer…</a">WSO Boutique Banks List.
  2. Networking:

    • Networking is crucial, especially for smaller firms. Reach out to alumni, attend finance-related events, and leverage LinkedIn to connect with professionals in the industry.
    • As highlighted in the WSO thread "From Non-Target MBA to IB Summer Associate Intern," constant networking and reaching out to alumni can significantly improve your chances.
  3. Persistence:

    • Smaller firms may not have formal internship programs, so persistence is key. Follow up with firms that have not responded and be proactive in your search.
    • According to the WSO thread "No IB offers for the summer...what now?", calling the careers page phone numbers and emailing firms can help you find opportunities that may not be publicly advertised.
  4. Flexibility:

    • Be open to unpaid or off-cycle internships, as these can sometimes lead to full-time offers. Smaller firms may offer these types of positions more frequently.
    • The WSO thread "Get a load of this shit." suggests aiming for very small boutiques doing off-cycle recruiting if you have some finance experience.

By following these steps and utilizing the resources available on WSO, you can increase your chances of securing a summer internship at a smaller IB firm in NYC. Good luck!
