SMBC Corporate Solutions Group
Hi everyone. Currently looking for FT opportunities and got a meet & greet with SMBC's corporate solutions group. I'm wondering anyone here is familiar of what the group is responsible for and the day to day as an analyst since the description is pretty vague. Trying to see what should I prepare beforehand to better position myself during the info session. I'm posting the description here as reference. Thank you!

CSG augments our client coverage efforts by generating timely and relevant ideas that provide SMBC’s clients with best-in-class advice and solutions regarding capital structure, credit ratings, liquidity, debt capacity, M&A finance, and more using a product agnostic approach.

A career in CSG is one that offers a high level of interaction with key client decision makers, as well as with colleagues throughout the bank in various product groups including loan origination, debt & equity capital markets, derivatives and M&A advisory as well as client & product teams in Tokyo, London, and Singapore.
This is what I know since I had a friend who worked there:
The Corporate Solutions Group (CSG) falls under the corporate & investment banking coverage division of SMBC, but functions more like a product group. The senior bankers in the group have pretty strong IB backgrounds. They work with a lot of the coverage groups when it comes to helping them model out various things like capital allocation, firepower, complex credit analyses. It’s basically a technical-heavy corporate banking role with some sprinkles of IB (SMBC coverage is basically a relationship manager role aka corporate banking rather than an investment banking). But again, I’d take that group over most of the industry groups at SMBC, but again LevFin and DCM dominate if your goal is to actually be on IB transactions.
Thank you so much for the details! I have a couple more questions on the aspects you mentioned.
1. For capital allocation, do you mean debt/equity used in transactions and subsequent impacts or analysis on company's optimal capital structure, and decide whether they have capacity for dividend, stock buy-back, capex and working capital investment, etc.
2. How does complex credit analyses differ from traditional credit analysis in corporate banking
Trying to prepare as much as I can to position myself better for it. Appreciated!
I got the zoom meet & greet too, but did everyone who applied or selectively given out? same with the hirevue they just sent out?
also got hirevue, will assume everyone gets it
