SMBC IB Analyst Compensation?
Anyone have any insight into how much smbc pays? I know the hourly rate for SA's is quite high...does this translate to higher comp for FT? Wondering if they pay in-line with street i.e. 110k base + 40-50k bonus.

No way it’s that high
hello
where do you think comp is?
Not sure
Smbc does not pay street - someone who heard an associate there complaining about it after a few drinks.
Analyst comp is in-line with street, associate comp is still behind but will likely catch up soon. Bonus ranges depend on group but can meet/exceed that 40-50k for analyst range if in a top group, and can be under if in a lesser group.
Would you happen to know what base is?
The pay for SA 2027 groups appears to be $60.44/hr. That's definitely very competitive, probably higher than most I would assume.
what about full-time?
was told A1 is street
This reflects current A1 base of $110k based on a 35 hr work week. Pretty sure its highly discouraged to log OT hours so just expect to receive $9.166k/mo.
Does smbc actually have an IBD division? I thought that the coverage groups there were just corporate banking (as opposed to actual IB coverage groups) and have also heard smbc got rid of its M&A/ECM teams following the JEFF partnership.
Pretty sure this is true. Incoming sa
Correct on all, but will add SMBC has a corporate advisory team which is probably the closest thing to IB.
They have CIB (Corporate & Investment Banking), no different from how a bank like Wells Fargo does it.
CIB is bifurcated into two groups (marketing and LMG). Marketing members work under relationship managers who own the relationship (get paid more) and LMG which underwrites the credit for deals. Pretty sure WF has just one team which I think is preferable from a learning and experience perspective.
CB & IB is completely different at WF and CIB is just a division to roll everything up together for marketing/pay structure purposes. It includes IB, CB, Markets, and I think some RE groups. I think Citi rolls everything up the same way.
Anyone know perks for SMBC? Dinner stipends? Ubers?
Starting in 2026, company match improved from 3% to 6% + 2.5% non-contributory rate. Pretty sure $35 ubereats after 7pm and idk about ubers. 22 days of PTO outside of company holidays.
22 days??? Are most people using all 22? Sounds like a lot to me, but don't know what it looks like at other firms.
For CIB (not LMG group)
Analyst 1: $110k (base) + $35k (bonus)
Analyst 2: $125k + idk yet prob $35k.
If working past 7pm at office believe it is $35 via uber. Been a while since i've worked that late so could be wrong. Think aso1 is still $150k base but someone else feel free to correct me.
Can I PM you? Have some quick questions about group placement
Frankly don’t know how group placement works as I was never an SA. However, would think it’d be beneficial reaching out to the groups you’re most interested in for coffee chats/teams calls.
Thanks. Was wondering what the bonus range typically look at the associate level for the CIB coverage groups there? Also how does associate base pay scale (assuming smbc has assoc 1/2/3 or something like that)?
