Sophomore Internships for RX Recruiting

What is the ideal sophomore internship to recruit for RX banking junior year? I've seen people do internships at distressed funds, are these processes formalized or is it moreso just network in? Do smaller RX firms (Configure/SSG/GLC/Gordian) take sophomores as interns?

Sophomore internships at investing firms are generally the norm, and if the role is for a credit team that could help with showing demonstrated interest for rx junior internship seats. When I was applying for sophomore internships, most of my processes were from applications to programs posted on our university job board or LinkedIn without prior networking. If there's a specific firm that has historically taken sophomore interns and there isn't a public application, networking may help. Generally, advisory firms won't take sophomore interns if they have a junior internship program (with the exception of dedicated BB sophomore programs), so I would suggest looking towards buy-side internships.

Recruiting for RX SA25 and have boutique IB for freshman summer and for soph summer have credit investing for a small lender. I feel like I can spin this good for RX interviews, but would the credit internship work for generalist IB SA25 recruiting?

What's the size and strategy of the credit fund? Also would love to hear what the process was like/how you got into it

Yup, I've known classmates who did private credit their sophomore summer and landed M&A junior internships. Assuming your internship is private credit, you could say you were drawn to the deal-team oriented structure of underwriting and how you wanted reps given the velocity of credit investments. Then you could pivot to why banking by saying how it also seems like a deal-oriented workflow but advisers have a wider mandate on what they help clients with.
