Sovereign Advisory Interview Questions
I'll attend an interview for a sovereign advisory internship next week.
If anyone has ever been through the process, how do you prepare for an interview? What type of questions they usually ask?
Many thanks in advance!
Paris? I think you need to know a lot of macroeconomic technicals and how they relate to traditional debt markets and the differences for governments. Lots of grad student with econ degrees in Paris sov advisory.
when you were saying econ major, do you mean like econ policy master or pure econ master? thx!
In Sovereign Advisory but each bank differs greatly. A list comes to mind:
- Oil and Gas/metals impact on oil export countries vs imports
- read rating agency reports
- What products do we offer
- general trends across continents and regions, LATAM, Eastern Europe, South Asia etc.......
- which country would you advise right now and why
- Fed rate predictions and why the are hiking
-ESG especially for EMs
These are very broad, but we tend to narrow down as the interview goes by. But mainly being on top of the news, not mainstream, talking about countries and their finances. Great job, lots of fun, lots of travelling soon, and good pay on par with IB Analysts. cons: mandates can be slow, but for a reputable bank: Lazard, Rothschild, JPM, GS, MS its not a problem if you have a lot of deals. Good Luck!
