Currently in an infra role on the investments team. Was contacted by a very small (10 person) merchant bank in NYC. The firm seems legit - a lot of good deal flow and a solid work-life balance. Comp is consistent with the elite boutiques at the Associate level ($300-$330k). The comp would be a significant increase over my current salary. Worried about the exit opportunities in 3-5 years since the name carries very little weight.

That might be the drawback it would probably be harder to land a PE role although it’s certainly possible especially at funds you work with.
You could definitely lateral to a more reputable bank and then it would be easier to go to PE.
