Stay in London for buyside or NYC for IBD

Hi all,

Currently a senior IBD analyst in London. Since I was a kid I’ve always wanted to spend a year or two over in NYC or California then move back to London but it was never really an option for my bank (I come from a non bulge bracket where transferring across offices is rare). However, I raised this internally to seniors and only very recently they said they might be able to transfer me in a few months to NYC which would be amazing.

However, my long term plan is buyside in London and I am currently recruiting for an investment fund in London with a strategy I really like (I’m fairly far in the process) and if everything goes well and I do receive an offer, I’m unsure what to do, given how tough buyside recruiting is (and coming from a non BB/EB makes it even harder for me) and my long term plan is buyside in London then this is like a perfect opportunity for me vs my “dream” since a kid of always wanting to experience America for a couple years but staying in banking and risk not being able to recruit for a buyside role after.

For the record the investment fund only has a London office so the option of accepting the offer (if I get one) and then trying to move to the states a few years down the line isn’t an option.

Would appreciate hearing everyone’s thoughts / advice on this matter.
