Steppingstones into a Bulge Bracket Bank

I am currently a Junior at a known state college but wouldn't consider it a semi-target with a sub-par 3.3 GPA. I have plans to acquire an internship at a BBB my senior year summer as I was a bit late on the discovery of IB and need to land a stepping-stone internship into the industry first. I know the odds are against me, but I would rather die trying than not try at all. What internship should I shoot for this summer to use as a steppingstone into IB? I have a pretty good inn at a boutique bank this spring, but I am thinking that won't be enough and would need a bigger name on my resume if I even want to be considered such as PWC or EY. I currently hold an operations internship and am looking to break in even though the chances are slim... any advice on what to shoot for this summer?

Hey there, it's great to see your determination! Here's a bit of advice based on the information I have:

  1. Boutique Bank Internship: You mentioned you have a good chance at a boutique bank this spring. That's a great start! Experience in a boutique bank can provide you with relevant skills and exposure to the industry. It's not always about the name, but the experience and skills you gain.

  2. Broaden Your Scope: While aiming for big names like PWC or EY is a good idea, don't limit yourself to them. Consider other financial institutions or firms that offer roles relevant to Investment Banking. This could be in areas like Equity Research, Private Equity, or even in a Financial Analyst role at a non-financial firm.

  3. Networking: This is crucial in the finance industry. Start building your network now. Reach out to alumni from your school who are in the industry, attend networking events, and don't be afraid to ask for informational interviews.

  4. Improve Your GPA: While you're still in school, try to boost your GPA as much as possible. Every little bit helps and a stronger GPA will only improve your chances.

  5. Leverage Your Current Internship: Even if it's in operations, try to learn as much as you can and make connections that could help you down the line. Every experience is valuable.

Remember, the path to IB is not always a straight line. Many have taken unconventional routes to get there. Keep your end goal in mind, but be flexible in how you get there. Good luck!

I love the implementation of AI here. Very unique.

My advice is A) gpa up, B) Aim at big 4 valuation after college, C) Jump post grad.

Or get a MSF at a good college and jump from there

Ha, thanks... I feel like some members ready to kill the monkey bot (and me) but I think in certain cases (when no humans are responding) the AI can add value.
