Studying abroad at UCL from a non-target (but good school)

Hey,

I'm going to be studying abroad at UCL in Autumn. My goal is to break into IB upon graduation, but willing to try and network my way into it if I can't get an offer during recruiting season. What resources can I take advantage of (or networking opportunity's) while I'm there? I want to utilize my time effectively. I'm majoring in finance, but don't have any relevant internships.

Thanks

Starting from late August, you can start looking at Careers sections for networking events of all major BBs and boutiques present in London. Some of them will be useless, but others will get you fast-tracked. As far as I remember, CS almost exclusively hires from their networking events and they get filled up very quickly; Lazard also runs a London networking event with fast-track opportunities; JPM runs exclusive IBD dinners for UCL so make sure you apply to those too.

Follow UCL Economics and Finance society, Investment society and UCL Guild. They all post exclusive networking events with banks and consulting shops. Also, get involved with Bloomsbury Capital, a student-run investment fund. Even though they don't do much and the total portfolio is like £10k worth, you will still participate in pitching and stock picking, which looks great on your CV.

UCL Careers are pretty much useless in terms of specific IBD prep. They can check and advise on your CV though.

Best of luck:)
