studying and recruiting in Germany?

Hello, I'm from Germany and will be finishing school next year. After reading this board and how important it is to study at the best universities for campus recruiting in the US I would like to know how the situation is in Germany.

From my understanding we don't have such huge differences between schools and we don't really have elite universities(although there are some private ones like EBS or WHU)

So for someone who could be interested in working in the finance or consulting industry what would you recommend?

What universities ,what subjects, how does recruiting work in Germany.

I hope there are some people from/or with knowledge about Germany who can help me

Thx

Do you mean "finishing school" as in "high school" or as in "university"? There's pretty much the same "elitistic" attitude if you talk about the top shops, less so with smaller institutions. So if you come from a good university, you have much better chances to get an internship or an analyst gig. The University of Mannheim, Frankfurt University, and EBS (though most of the folks from there are not extremely bright) are the schools BBs recruit from (at least these are the most talked-about ones). St. Gallen seems to be a good school with a sizable IB alumni body, though it's not in Germany.

I meant high school.Right now I'm looking at the universities and soon I'll be applying to them. And I understand that there are better universities like Mannheim I just wanted to say that there isn't a school like Harvard in Germany where just the name gives you a huge advantage and where you can basically study anything and still be conisdered for most jobs.

to get into a good university by German yardsticks. Or go UK/US. You don't necessarily need Harvard. While European education needs some self-esteem boost, it's generally more rigorous than its US counterpart and there are some good choices that will land you a position in finance.

P.S. Deadjackal, there's no need to be so hidebound.

i agree with ibguy. why not stay in germany? plenty of US banks have offices there, plus i would imagine life style in germany would be better?
