Summer Analyst: Should I ask for more staffing?
Staffed on two live deals but end up having a good amount of free time throughout the day. Maybe actually working 4-5 hours a day most of the days. Should I go ahead and ask for more staffing or is it that not a good idea for a summer analyst? Thanks.
This job ebbs and flows. The way you get into trouble as a intern and full time is getting overwhelmed and having half assed work. Be smart; if you have free time familiarize yourself with your banks internal systems or go through old models/ decks and start developing tools to help you succeed when you actually have work.
This.
I recommend you chill out. If the deals are actually live you'll get buried pretty soon. If anything, just tell your analyst you're open to taking on more work and they can help find some stuff for you to do meanwhile.
Don't ask for more work, it makes it look like you can't entertain yourself, and you could get in trouble if your stuff picks up. The anxiety is understandable but if you're doing your assigned work you're literally fine. Some days I work 0 hours and some days 23, it's just a really uneven distribution
Just do really great work on the few things you have. Only ask for work if you really have nothing to do. Asking for more work is a big mistake in IB (usually).
