Summer Internships>Does Location matter?

I was just wondering if applications for summer internships would be more competitive in EMEA offices ie/ London compared to Asia Pacific offices like Hong Kong?

If there is a difference between regions..is it easier to be accepted for an internship in Australia compared to Hong Kong?

Also, does anyone know which investment banks allow multiple applications for different offices? Because as far as I'm aware I think only Citi allows it.

I wouldn't think so, TBH. I worked at a BB in Buffalo, NY which is a very irrelevant city in the grand scheme of things. It helped me throughout my journey and I've managed to secure a BB IB role in Houston (chose Houston over NYC). Buddies from my department have gone on to San Fran and NYC with no issues. NYC, San Fran, Houston, Chicago I look at as the same, only difference is preference.

For your sophomore summer, probably (but not really). If it isn't in NY, you are going to get the "Why NYC?" question much more often. Frankly, I think it's dumb to ask to anyone at all - we all know why you want to be in NY. So from that regard, yes it does matter. But not really because it's a dumb question and easy to answer.

Where I do think it comes into play more is if you do everything around one area. For example, I grew up in the south, go to school in the south, and did my internship in the south. I got "Why NYC?" so many times, (and maybe it was just me) but I felt like they were asking it in a way that was implying I was a soft southern boy who couldn't make it in the "big time."

TL;DR - Just be able to answer "Why NY?" in interviews and then soph. internship location won't matter at all.

I would say that it depends on the firm and whether they have top groups in the city. Since we are most likely talking about a small bank then I would go for their largest office. You'll have more opportunities to network with coworkers and other people in the industry if your in NY as opposed to Buffalo.
