Switching Groups/Banks

Looking for some advice about potentially switching groups or switching banks entirely. For context, I'm an incoming summer analyst at a top MM bank (HW/JEF/WB/HL) in a cap markets group. However, I've done some research and am starting to realize that there's much better exit opportunities on the M&A side of the shop. For this reason, I'd like to eventually make it into an M&A coverage group, but am not sure what the best way is to get there. Is it better to re-recruit for full time after the internship, or just stick with my current group (assuming FT offer) for a year or 2 and then make the switch. Ideally, I'd like to stay at my current bank, but am worried I'll miss out on on-cycle opportunities if I don't make the switch to M&A right after the internship. On a side note - would I get looks from head hunters for PE in a cap markets group?

Should be feasible to move to a coverage or M&A team. Take some time to brush up on modeling. I started in DCM but moved to an M&A group at a different firm after a year.
