If you’re thinking about typical PE/PC exit, I wouldn’t really recommend DCM syndicate. If you want to exit out DCM syndicate , the most natural places are DCM and S&T, none of which is a typical pipeline for PE or PC roles. S&T to certain HF roles might be doable.
That being said, I have seen syndicate guys get compensated competitively and have decent lifestyles, especially when you get to a fairly senior level (when you don’t have to comb through order books after new issues). I think part of that is there’s less a need to pitch clients as most of those are done by DCM origination.
